Discord's username market has a wrinkle most other platforms don't: in 2023, Discord retired its old Username#1234 discriminator system and moved everyone onto unique, globally distinct @username handles — effectively restarting the scarcity race from zero for short names.
Because the current handle system is relatively young, "OG" on Discord more often means "claimed a short handle during or shortly after the 2023 migration" rather than referring to a decade-old account the way it might on Instagram. Both older accounts and early post-migration handles carry weight, but for different reasons.
